Among the well-wishers who attended Sunday night’s reception were the Rev. Jerry Griffin and his wife, Helen. Jerry Griffin pastored First Baptist from the early 1970s through the end of March, 1994. Like his immediate successor, Brother Jerry grew FBC into a new building, which was erected on South Bois d’Arc shortly after the beginning of his pastorate.

On Sunday evening, the members of First Baptist Church of Forney hosted well-wishers from across the community in a reception in honor of their pastor, the Rev. Jimmy Pritchard, who has shepherded the flock for 15 years.

Dr. Pritchard came to First Baptist Church in April, 1994. At the time his pastorate here began, First Baptist Church was located on South Bois d’Arc Street. Under Dr. Pritchard’s leadership, the congregation outgrew that location and the $13.5 million first phase of a new church campus was constructed on FM 741. First Baptist now has a membership of more than 4,800. Among these are more than 1,650 people Dr. Pritchard has personally baptized. In addition, during the 1990s FBC Forney became the “mother church” of an extension that later grew self-sustaining as Talty Baptist Church.

During Sunday night’s public reception, colleagues and friends from throughout the community stopped by to offer congratulations to Dr. Pritchard and his wife, Jeanette. The reception followed the congregation’s Sunday evening worship service.
