GREETINGS once again from Layden Senior Citizen Center and an open invitation to all you seniors (60+) in the community. We meet Monday thru Friday, 8:00 to 2:00 at Forney City Hall.  Reserved parking at the back of the building, which is on Front Street. The coffee pot is always on, with complimentary donuts after 11:00 from HAPPY DAYS.  Lunch is served at 12:00; and we need a count for the cook. Please call The Center @ 972.564.7348 to make a lunch reservation.

Every fourth Wednesday we celebrate with those who have birthdays that month. Last Wednesday we celebrated with the ones who had birthdays in August:  Kathie Rhodes, Jack Travis, Betty Travis, Willie Holt, Ilene Hughes, Faustine Penny, and Margie Fleming.

Mary Nichols entertained us with inspirational music and song, along with her subtle, yet sincere witness to her faith, a life filled with joy. And beyond the call for entertainment, she was gracious enough to bring handmade soaps for everyone. Thank you again, Mary, for being so gracious. We always appreciate hearing from you. And our thanks again to BowWood Florist for gracing our table with the beautiful rose.  Yours truly was the lucky one to take it home!

As always, we will play BINGO on Friday, September 4.  Remember to wear red to show your support of country and our troops wherever they may be.

Next Wednesday, September 9, we will remember those less fortunate by bringing our offerings of staple, non-perishable food items for The New Life Food Pantry.

Thank you for your participation!

We have a lot of folks on the sick list Ralph at Golden Acres, Mary W. still in Rockwall re-hab.  Jimmie in Windsor Care.  And now Faustine is there for re-hab following a hospital stay and a bout with vertigo;   also, Ilene is suffering with vertigo; and Jack Travis is confined at home with health issues.

Bill J. gave us a scare; but is back on his feet, doing well.  And we are pleased to see Lucile C. back in our midst.  Our concern for each of you; and all good wishes for a return to health.

This week I read with special interest an article in Guideposts by Phil Keoghan, the host of The Amazing Race.  I was reminded of how hard it is for us seniors “to think outside the box” or to be pushed outside our “comfort zone”.  But his personal philosophy, he says, is NOW (No Opportunity Wasted).  I’m pretty sure we’d all benefit from this theory, with no up-front investment. To paraphrase his thinking, he says the more you face your fears the easier it is to handle life’s challenges.  So let’s not rest on our laurels; but live each day in the NOW mode - No Opportunity Wasted.  “The world is waiting for you ...”—Phil Keoghan

Our TFT is a quote from Phil:  “The more you do things that scare you, the more faith replaces fear.”
