A recount called for by William “Skeet” Phillips in the wake of the March 2 race between Phillips and incumbent Precinct 2 County Commissioner Ray Clark in the Republican Primary indicated a minor change in the number of votes, but did not change the outcome, the Messenger has learned.
All of the paper ballots were recounted Friday at the Kaufman County Courthouse Annex beginning at 9:00 a. m. During the recount, a tape of the electronic voting machines was also run.
According to Kaufman County Republican Party Chairman Bill Baker, Mr. Phillips received two additional votes in the recount. Mr. Clark’s total remained the same, making a difference of 13 votes between the two candidates.
The previous difference had been 15 votes.
