ABOUT THE AUTHOR

During their regular meeting of February 17, the Forney Park Board unanimously adopted a proposal for a single peewee football association that was originally offered January 27.

The action came at the close  of discussion regarding the only action item on the agenda.

The February 17 meeting began at 7:00 p. m. in the Mick Spellman Park Building in Forney Community Park with all Park Board  Commissioners present.

The first item on the agenda was the consent agenda in which the only item was consideeration of the minutes of the Park Board’s January meeting. These were approved by unanimous “yes” vote on a motion by Commissioner John Schubert, seconded by Commissioner Roger Jones.

The second item on the agenda was an open forum reserved for public communication. The open forum was opened by unanimous consent on a motion by Schubert, seconded by Jones. No one asked to speak, and the open forum was adjourned with all Commissioners voting in favor of a motion by Schubert, seconded by Commissioner Tony Gonzalez.

Schubert made the motion to consider the lone action item—to act upon a recommendation from the Parks and Recreation Department to appoint one peewee football organization and other individuals to manage youth football in the fall of 2010 in accordance with FISD and City of Forney agreement. Seconding the motion to consider this matter was Mr. Gonzalez, who moderated the ensuing discussion.

At the outset, Gonzalez said two proposals would be on the table that evening—the January 27 proposal made by the the Parks Department, and a proposal made by the FSA (Forney Longhorns) and the FAFA (Forney Saints) on February 13. The only major issues regarding the implementation of either of these proposals were:

• Having a one-tier system vs. having a two-tier system, and

• How to divide teams.
