On Monday, Forney City Manager Brian Brooks was in Austin testifying before the joint Texas House and Senate committees on transportation.

Brooks had been invited to testify about Forney’s experience as the first community in the state of Texas to implement a transportation reinvestment zone, or TRZ, under state legislation that became law less than two years ago.

“Forney is being recognized as a leader in innovative transportation funding,” Brooks reported  Tuesday after his return from Austin.

Brooks was on a discussion panel regarding transportation reinvestment zones along with two transportation heavyweights; an expert in transportation financing issues; and an expert in municipal law. Besides Brooks, the panel consisted of James Bass, Chief Financial Officer for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT); Brian Cassidy, a partner with the law firm Loke, Lord, Bissell & Liddell and an expert on TRZ issues; Bennett Sandlin, General Counsel for the Texas Municipal League, and Rafael Aldrete-Sanchez of the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI).
