ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Lancaster—On Tuesday, February 24, state ranked Waco Midway ended Forney’s playoff run.

Officially, Waco Midway beat Forney by a count of 88-29.

With the win, Waco Midway improves to 31-4 overall on the season while with the loss, Forney finishes its season at 19-18.

Waco Midway is a very good basketball team. They are big, fast, and well coached. They are definitely a state title contender.

Despite the tough loss, I will say that I am proud of the fact that Forney competed all the way to the end.  This team showed everyone in attendance what Rabbit Pride is all about.

The 2008-’09 Forney Lady Rabbits basketball team will be remembered as a very special team. This team advanced farther in the playoffs than any Forney girls’ basketball team in the last 25 years. Well done ladies.

I want to thank this team for giving me so many great moments to write about this season.

I will remember the great comeback this team made against Terrell on January 20th. Down by 14 going in the 4th quarter, Forney staged a dramatic rally to win the game by a count of 62-50. In that 4th quarter, Forney outscored Terrell 35-9. The shooting display that Forney put on in that 4th quarter will live in my memory for a long time.

The playoffs wins over Ennis and Jacksonville will always bring a smile to my face in the years to come. Another 4th quarter rally helped Forney race past Ennis on February 17th to win the Bi- District Championship by a count of 68-62. In that 4th quarter, he smiles on the Forney players’ faces were priceless. They were having fun playing basketball and they knew they were going to win.

In their Area Round Playoff win over Jacksonville, Forney’s defensive effort was superlative. In this hard-fought 42-34 win, the Forney players gave all that they had to secure the victory. After the game, the team was physically and mentally drained. They had given a maximum effort and they knew it.  They were tired but happy. They played like a champion on that night.

This team played very hard in every game this season. This team never backed down from a challenge and they did not quit. For that, I applaud them.

In closing, I want to say thank you to Head Coach Neal Weaver for giving me all the stats, quotes, and information that I needed to write the best articles that I could this season. You are the best, Coach.
