On Monday evening, September 15, MTA teacher Sherill Emberlin held Smith Elementary School’s first-ever MTA parent meeting.
Purpose of the meeting was to allow Mrs. Emberlin to get acquainted with parents of her students and to explain the MTA program to the parents.
Mrs. Emberlin discussed the purpose of the MTA multi-sensory teaching approach program, which was developed for dyslexic students by Margaret Taylor Smith, for whom Smith Elementary is named. Mrs. Emberlin showed a Power Point presentation explaining the MTA program, daily classroom activities, expectations for reading at home, and the rules of conduct. At the conclusion of the program, some students demonstrated how they do their daily letter and sound cards that help with coding and decoding skills in reading and spelling.
