After an executive session and a presentation by CFO Dwayne Thompson Monday night concerning the proposed May 8 $30 million school bond proposal, the Forney ISD Board of Trustees took a unanimous vote to call a bond election for May 8.
Motion to call the election came from trustee Becky Dobbs. Seconding was trustee John Taylor.
The proposed bond includes the following:
• Additions and renovations at Forney High School
• Improvements to North Forney High School
• Improvements to security at elementary and middle school entrances for seven elementaries and both middle schools
• Purchase and renovate a facility to serve as the district’s alternative school
• Additional parking at the district administrative facility
Thompson told trustees that this proposed bond, if approved by voters, would not raise taxes because of the restructuring of the existing debt.
The February 1 school board meeting was called to order at 7:00 p. m. by board president David Walker with all trustees present.
The invocation was given by John Taylor. The pledges to the U. S. and Texas flags were led by fifth grader Emily Coleman, a student at Blackburn Elementary.
The first item of business was student recognitions.
The first student to be recognized was Brown Middle School student Travis Kuykendall, who has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
The next group to be recognized were the members of the Forney High School varsity football team who have been selected to the All-State Academic Team.
Matthew Morales, a senior at Forney High School, was recognized for being selected to the Texas Music Educators’ Association All-State Choir.
Three Forney High School band students were recognized for being selected to the Texas Music Educators’ All-State Band. Selected were senior Kyle Simmons, percussion; junior Nick Rothouse, percussion; and senior Colin Knowles, trombone.
No one was present to speak under “Hearing of Students, Employees and Citizens” on the agenda.
