MESQUITE, TX—The Forney High School Marching Band recently competed in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Area Round Competition and captured second place at the competition held on Saturday, October 24 at Mesquite Memorial Stadium in Mesquite, Texas. The top finish qualified the band to advance to the UIL State Marching Band Championships to be held in San Antonio, Texas on Monday, November 2 and Tuesday, November 3. It’s the first time in the history of Forney High School that the marching band has reached the state championship competition since becoming a 4A school.

The Forney High School Marching Band’s performance of The Music of Dmitri Shostakovich, a program arranged by directors Mark Poole, Mario Luna and percussion consultant Shannon Jacobs, earned the band a final rating of eight from the five judges, just one rating point shy of the Mesquite Poteet Marching Band who won the competition with a rating of seven. The Waxahachie Marching Band earned a rating of 17 to finish third in the competition. All three marching bands advance to the state competition.
