Criswell Elementary hosted its annual dyslexia information parent meeting on Tuesday, April 14. Parents of MTA students attending Criswell were invited. The meeting was held in the library and was led by Jennifer Acker, Criswell’s MTA teacher.
Those in attendance viewed a video entitled “Dyslexia: Recognizing Characteristics” which was produced by Texas Dyslexia Project at Region 10 Education Service Center. Mrs. Acker followed the video with a power point presentation explaining the characteristics of dyslexia, the MTA program for dyslexic students, Irlen/Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome, and Section 504.
Children who accompanied the adults spent the hour playing Bingo, Checkers, and puzzles in the cafeteria with several high school and staff volunteers. Parents who attended reported they felt more informed about dyslexia and encouraged about their children’s future successes.
