There are several members on the Student Council at BMS. Do you know any of them? Next time you see them, tell them thanks. They have been working their behinds off for our school with fundraisers, drug awareness and cancer donations.  Let’s get you up-to-date on their accomplishments.

At the beginning of the year, students donated a dollar each to wear a cap for Caps for Cancer. Thanks to every kid that brought money, Student Council raised over $140 to purchase really cool hats for kids with cancer to wear.  The purpose was to honor those children fighting a deadly disease.

Student Council helped with the organization of our school’s only dedication. They were kind enough to serve refreshments, set the tables and clean up afterward.

This past week was Red Ribbon Week throughout Texas schools. Our Student Council worked hard to put posters around the school, which were funny and entertaining. They wanted to remind our student body that taking drugs, drinking and smoking tobacco are not the way to go. They came up with all kinds of ideas throughout the week like wear a funny hat and crazy slippers, and got it approved with the principal, Jody Fadely. Each day they provided anti-drug activities for us to do in advisory class.

Student Council members passed out numbered bracelets and drew numbers for lucky people to win prizes each day. If we want to have dances and fun school functions, someone has to raise that money. Thank goodness Student Council works hard to be able for us to do fun things.

A few weeks ago, Student Council sponsored the Pie in the Face fundraiser. They raised  money for us to be able to do more student body activities and had fun doing it. In case you missed it, Coach Laura Washburn was 4th, Coach Melissa Coop 3rd (she was so messy), Coach Craig Schaap 2nd, and in 1st place, history teacher Jared Ingram got pied in the face good. That was funny and hilarious.  Student Council has also recently sponsored the “Don’t fall into drugs” door contest.  Teachers decorated their doors to raise drug awareness to their students and included our seasonal fall colors.  Coach Melissa Villarreal’s advisory’s class won this contest.  Her advisory class had a really cool door design. You need to go by and see it. Student Council is giving them an ice cream party to celebrate Coach V’s class and their hard work.

Right now, Student Council is trying to get students to bring canned and boxed goods to their advisory class for the Forney Food Pantry. The winning teacher gets the wonderful privilege to wear the famous turkey suit for a whole day! This is SO worth it.  Imagine your teacher teaching in a turkey outfit.  Students, please bring no-perishable food items for those less fortunate then you, it would be very much appreciated.

Don’t take Student Council for granted. It does take a lot of work, time, and effort. Go by Tamyla Hasbrouck’s class sometime and see them working for you!
